“Our overall preparation and training for the summit of Mt Everest is going really well at the moment. We are trying to incorporate as much diversity as possible, with the aim of not allowing the body to get too used to any particular activity. We have been doing some great long pack walks, including Davies Creek, Smith’s track and the Arrow circuit including the drop into Aeroglen from Lumley’s Hill.
We include swimming, running and strength training, but without doubt, our favourite, and often toughest sessions are done with Ken Dalton from Redlynch Boxing Fitness. We have been training with Ken for years now, and he knows what specific activities and areas and we need to focus on for the climb.
There is nothing quite like dragging a dirty old tyre up hills for an hour, followed by a tough session of plyometric and boxing training. This style of training allows you to work hard whilst feeling extremely fatigued, hence tapping into your reserves and relying on your mental strength, which is exactly what we need and love.
Ken’s ability and experience, having won numerous national and international boxing titles, and having represented Australia, gives him the advantage, with first hand knowledge of what works and how to develop that mental focus and strength.”

“Before Redlynch Boxing, Ken used to “encourage me” (see: harasse me!) to take better care of myself and to drop those unwanted kilos. So much so that he would turn up even if I cancelled! As we all know there is no escaping Ken… especially when you live next door!
I have gone from a self confessed “wine and chocoholic” too someone who looks forward to the morning workout, well, most days.
Because at the end of those sessions I feel PUMPED! I have lost weight, gained fitness and more importantly have more self esteem then ever before and this is due to Ken being truly dedicated to what he does. I know of no other trainer who texts you to make sure you are still looking after yourself and to make sure your “fired up” even when you are on holidays!
Ken and Rach’s gym is not full of people looking at themselves in the mirror or trying to outdo each other with fitness clothing but down to earth people who enjoy a good laugh even at 5.15am! I have made new friends and even gained a walking buddy for the days when we are not being tortured. I also love the variety of the exercises that Ken “invents” for us all.
